Healing After Trauma: You Are Not Alone

Experiencing a violent crime is overwhelming and it can affect every part of life. The trauma you have experienced can be made worse by the stress of outside struggles and the responsibilities of everyday life.

At CODAC’s Trauma Recovery Center, we’re here to support recent survivors of violent crime who are struggling to cope with all aspects of recovery. In addition to support, advocacy, therapy and psychiatry, we can help connect you with resources for basic needs like housing, food, clothing, financial assistance and legal issues, so you can focus on your healing. And there is no cost to you for these services.

You might feel unsure about starting therapy or facing things that remind you of what happened. Together, we will focus on what’s most important to you first. We can move at your pace and with your goals in mind. We meet you wherever you are, whether it’s in our calming center, the hospital, at your home or in your community.

We are here to support people who have been affected by violence, including:

Gun Shot and Stab Wounds

Physical Assault

Sexual Assault & Human Trafficking

Domestic Violence

Homicide

And Other Violent Crimes

Who We Help

Our team supports adults (ages 18+) with the practical, emotional and mental effects of trauma. Our services are designed to help you feel safe, supported, and hopeful again.

The Trauma Recovery Center serves people who are struggling with the effects of recent trauma from a violent crime and are not currently receiving mental health care. Many of the people we support also face other challenges, such as:

  • Not having stable housing
  • Money problems or financial stress
  • Living in a high-crime area
  • Trouble getting healthcare and support services

Supportive Services

The stress from trauma can take a toll on your mind and body. Healing is not something you have to do alone. The Trauma Recovery Center offers many kinds of support for free, including:

Meeting Your Basic Needs

Connections to resources for food, health care, shelter, paying bills, and accessing other supports you are entitled to as a victim of crime. Our team will also help you apply for benefits like housing, social security, disability, and food assistance, if needed.

Trauma-Focused Therapy & Support

Therapy is a tool that helps you learn coping skills to be able to deal with the impact of the trauma. You can also work with a therapist to process and heal from what you’ve been through. It can be an important tool in your healing process to reduce the long-lasting effects of trauma.

Victims Rights Advocacy

Learn about your rights as a victim of crime and receive support navigating the legal system (such as with your court case, probation) and applying for victims' compensation.

Mental Health Medications

Meet with a compassionate mental health doctor for help with trouble sleeping, anxiety and depression.

Substance Use Treatment

Trauma and stress can lead to using drugs or alcohol to cope. If you want to stop using drugs or alcohol - or simply use less - we will help you find the right level of care and support to reach your goals.

Medical Care

If there are physical impacts from the violence against you, we can help you coordinate follow-up medical care, help you get to your appointments and support you during your physical recovery.

Trauma Recovery Center services are available at no cost to you.
